Dinosaur Fun!

In early April I got to take Shawn to the Wittee Museum for the first time, and GiGi (my grandma) got to go with us.  I was so excited to take Shawn because they have a dinosaur exhibit and he LOVES dinosaurs. 

At first it was a little overwhelming and he wanted me to carry him.  I don't blame him, the dinosaurs were huge and loud and it was kind of dark in there. 

We were very happy that GiGi got to go with us.  Shawn definitely LOVES time with his GiGi... and I think she really enjoys it too.

There was a really nice area where the kids could be little archaeologist and go on their own dig.  Shawn liked finding all of the dinosaur bones. 

Shawn was especially intrigued by the wild animal exhibit.  He likes animals too and always wants to know all about them, what they're named, what they eat and where they live.

Next, was the Science Tree House.  Shawn enjoyed exploring all of the experiments. 

And he really liked all of the different ways to make music.  They had really cool drums and wind chimes.  The wind chimes were played with flip flops... or "chanklas" like we call them down on the South side!  I found that especially amusing since I very distinctly remember my neighbor being chased around by his mom with a "chankla" whenever he was in trouble.  Who knew flip flops had some many different uses?

More conversations with a two-year-old

That boy needs a new mommy-
We were at the grocery store a few weeks ago and Shawn noticed a little boy crying and his mother telling him to “Shut Up!” Our conversation went like this:
o Shawn- “That mommy is not nice!”
o Mommy- “That’s right, it’s not nice to say shut up. That hurts people's feelings.”
o Shawn- “That boy needs a new mommy. Maybe you can be his new mommy. You always nice.”

I need a new ear-
o Shawn- “Mommy, my ear hurts.”
o Mommy- “I’m sorry that your ear hurts, where does it hurt?”
o Shawn- “It’s not you fault my ear hurts. I just need a new ear, this one is broken. Can we go to the ear store?”
o Mommy- “You can’t buy a new ear; we have to fix the one you have. Maybe you need to go to the doctor.”
o Shawn- “But my Spiderman truck broke and we went to the store and got a new one.”
o Mommy- “I know, but trucks aren’t alive like you and your ear.”
o Shawn- “But my ear is broken and I need a new one.”

You a great mommy-
On mother’s day this year we had my mom, grandma, sister, and aunts over to my house for a BBQ. Shawn wanted to go play outside but needed a grown-up to go with him:
o Shawn- “Grandma, let’s go outside (to my grandma).”
o Mommy- “Shawn, that’s GG, not grandma.”
o Shawn- “No, that’s GREAT grandma. Like you a GREAT mommy!”
o Grandma (my mom) - “What about me, am I GREAT grandma?”
o Shawn- “No, you just a regular grandma. GG’s a GREAT grandma!”

You never know what they're going to say! 

Easter

Okay, guys.  Bear with me, I'm going to play catch up for the past six weeks that I've been in school.  So here goes. 

Easter was so much fun this year, Shawn is learning so much and understands a lot this year.  He was so excited he asked if Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny could come to his birthday party.

We had three days of Easter fun.  Friday my neices and nephews came over and we made Easter treats. 

They are rice krispies treats shaped in muffin tins to look like birds nest.  The kids had lots of fun putting the little eggs into the nests.. and lots of fun eating the little eggs.  The eggs were jelly beans, recees pieces, and marshmellows.

The next day we went to my Aunt Debbie's ranch.  I didn't get very many pictures because I didn't realize my new camera had a rechargeable battery and not external batteries.  But here't the few that I did get.

Sunday was Easter morning and the most important part... going to church and celebrating the wonderful gift of salvation that Jesus Christ made through his sacrifice on the cross.

After church we headed to Nana's for some fun with the cousins... and of course, an Easter pinata.

And that was Easter... what a blessing it is to be surrounded by so much family.  I love that Shawn is growing up with cousins all around him!

A Charlie Brown Flashback

So yesterday, Shawn put a bottle cap in his mouth. I know, toddlers and bottle caps don’t mix. I didn’t think anything about it because Shawn was never one to put things in his mouth, who knew he would start this habit as a toddler?

Anyway, I learned my lesson… no more bottle caps. I promptly told him to take the bottle cap out of his mouth and explained all of the reasons why it was very dangerous to put bottle caps in your mouth. When I was done with the lecture, I decided to test his comprehension, so I asked him, “Now tell me what mommy just said.”

His reply….

“ROAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRR (in his best T-rex impression)!”

Lesson learned #1- Don’t give bottle caps to two-year-olds.
Lesson learned #2- I must sound like the teacher from Charlie Brown, if she was a dinosaur.

Sorry...

Sorry it's been so long since I've updated.  This is my last week of school so hopefully after that I'll update more frequently again.  I also bought a new camera since I lost mine around Halloween, so I'll definitely have more pictures and stories to post. 

Gotta brag a little bit....

As many of you know, I have 35 nieces and nephews.  I have two nephews who are graduating from high school this year both from Steven's High School.   I have two older brothers that are twins and they both have son's graduating this year.  I am very proud of these two boys so here's a little bit about them.

Rey Anthony is very outgoing and very very smart, he's worked at Sea World as a lifeguard since he was 16.  He plans on going to either University of the Incarnate Word (my alma mater) or Our Lady of the Lake University, he has an academic scholarship to both schools and is waiting for the financial aid packets to come in for both schools before he makes a final decision. 






Rene is also very very smart and an extremely talented baseball player.  He has been on the Steven's varsity team since he was a freshman.  He has signed with St. Mary's University (my other alma mater) with a full ride baseball scholarship.  Here are a few links to some stories the Express News has written about him this year.

Welcome Baby Charles

Well, we have another new addition to the family to announce.  My baby brother and his wife, Dawn, welcomed Charles Matthew Solis into the family on March 12th.

Charles makes grandbaby number 15 on the Solis side of the family and niece/nephew number 35 between both mine and Jacin's families.  What a blessing it is for Shawn to be surrounded by so many cousins!  Family gatherings are so much fun... and a little stressful (not to mention expensive) having that many bodies in one space!
